The Garden Cottage enjoys a spectacular situation at the western end of the Ochil Hills with superb views across the historically renowned Sheriffmuir to the west and to the high peaks of the Trossachs and the southern Grampian mountains to the north and northwest. The enclosed back garden is home for several rabbits, hares, passing deer & perfect for BBQ's after walking the estate and hills.

Cauldhame House is a castellated country house, the name of which is derived from "Cauld house," (a primitive Inn which is situated on the drove from the Highlands to Stirling, the Falkirk Tryst and the south).

In 1715 during the Jacobite rising "a pageantry splendour", took place on the moor in front of Cauldhame during which the Earl of Mar's rebel forces were sent into disarray by the Royalist army under The Duke of Argyll. The women and children reputed to have watched the battle from Cauldhame where they had taken refuge and the house was celebrated in the ballad "Braes of Cauldhame".

The surrounding area offers a nature reserve; a sanctuary for migrating geese and other wild birds; superb walks and endless rambles in the wonderful Perthshire countryside, fishing at Orchil Loch Trout Fishery and great biking from local lanes to off road tracks. Blackford is the location of Baxters new flagship experience - fine food, clothing gifts and much more. The magnificent centre is also home to Tullibardine Highland Malt Whiskey and Tiso, the outdoor clothing specialist.

The word famous Gleneagles Hotel and golf complex, with its challenging championship course is less than 10 minutes by car. Numerous Scottish golf courses are also within easy reach. Riding, Shooting and falconry are available nearby.

The Garden Cottage is also an excellent location for exploring the Scottish Highlands and you can enjoy a trip to the west coast of Scotland through Glencoe, which itself is a magnificent drive through stunning landscapes. Perth, Stirling, Edinburgh - home of the world famous Edinburgh Festival and Glasgow are easy motorway trips with their historic sites, art galleries and museums. Retail therapy is in abundance for serious shoppers. The smaller towns of Auchterarder, Bridge of Allan, Comrie, Crieff, Callander and Dunblane are all within very easy reach. There are so many places to visit in Scotland: malt whisky distilleries, historic houses, castles and cottages, beautiful gardens, churches and a host of other attractions.
